What do hearts & disco have in common?

When we were approached about collaborating with Winthrop University to create a “Stayin’ Alive” CPR event for their campus, we wanted to make it a fun, educational event for both the students and the faculty/staff.

Through our partnership with Piedmont Medical Center, both groups were able to learn hands-only CPR and receive a check of their blood pressure, BMI and risk factors for heart disease. Add to that a DIY tie-dye T-shirt station, doing the Hustle on the Campus Green and visiting with community partners including Keystone Substance Abuse Services, NAMI, Tobacco Free York County and Let’s Go! 5,2,1,0 and you have a successful event all the way around.

We are pleased that 118 students participated in the midday event, with 98 learning hands-only CPR and 68 receiving screenings! Students received a special heart health and CPR educational piece created for their age group while we provided free AHA CPR booklets for faculty and staff.

A special thanks to President Dan Mahoney for joining us and to everyone who participated. Check out our photo album.
